This painting explores the power of light to transform an ordinary object, in this case a paper bag, into a thing of extraordinary beauty. I crumpled up the paper bag, set it inside a cardboard box, and shone a light on it. I was greatly inspired by the beauty and thin crumpled texture of the paper bag when it was illuminated by the glowing golden color of the light shining through the translucent brown paper. I hope that viewers will feel drawn into the warm beauty of the image. This picture was painted at age 16.
