This painting is framed. The background contains tiny strings of equations inspired by the adiabatic approximation.

An adiabatic process is a process where no heat is exchanged with the surroundings. If a quantum system starts in a certain energy state and the environment changes very slowly, the system will stay in that energy state. The adiabatic approximation describes systems that evolve slowly enough to remain in their instantaneous eigenstate, even though their Hamiltonian is changing with time.
