The text encircling this tangerine half is a quote from Rumi, a 13th-century Persian Sufi poet. It reads,"This poetry. I never know what I'm going to say. I don't plan it. When I'm outside the saying of it, I get very quiet and rarely speak at all. Rumi"
I chose these words from Rumi because they are relevant to my artistic practice. I paint silent poetry that speaks with loud colors. When beginning a painting, I do not normally have a plan for what the end result should be; for this painting I did not. And painting is how I speak best.
